Understanding the Window Sill
When configuring your custom plantation shutters with our online designer tool, you'll be prompted to indicate whether your window features a protruding sill. It's essential to distinguish between a sill and a recess to ensure you select the correct frame type for your window.
Defining a Window Sill
A window sill is an extension at the bottom of your window that juts out into the room, more so than any other part of the window frame.
Identifying a Window Sill
Your window may exhibit both a recess and a sill. To determine if you have a sill, observe your window from a side angle. Check if the bottom of the window recess protrudes more than the top. If it does, that's indicative of a sill's presence.
The Importance of This Information
We inquire about the presence of a sill because it influences the type of frame we provide. A standard Z-frame, for example, cannot accommodate a protruding sill as it is designed to wrap around the recess on all sides. If you have a sill, we will adjust the frame design so that the bottom part can rest directly on top of the sill, ensuring a proper fit and installation.
